Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian gymnast (born 12 November 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now Onestiin Gheorghe Gheorghiu dej, now Onesti Romania). She was first gymnast to score a perfect 10 at an Olympic ceremony. Bela Karalyi discovered Comaneci when she was six. Comaneci would go on to become Romania's gymnastics instructor. She first competed in the national junior championships in 1969, finishing 13th. She took the title in 1970. Her first competition in the international arena was in 1972, a pre-Olympic junior competition for communist-bloc nations she won three gold medals and in 1973 and 1974 she was an all-around junior champion. She defeated the Russian Lyudmila Torishcheva. The five-time European Champion, in her debut senior international competition held in 1975. In the event, she was awarded four golds and one silver. She was the winner of the American Cup in New York City in 1976 becoming the first woman in history to complete the backward double salto in a dismount from the unbalanced parallel bars. At the age of 13 she began appearing in travelling shows such as Ice Capades as a skater as well as her younger sibling Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne, born in Chicago Illinois US on 6 September 1942. Carol was a professional in the entertainment business as a teenager. At the age of a girl she started her career as the figure skater alongside Nina Wayne in the travelling entertainment program Ice Capades. The shows featured theatrical ice-skating performances.
